Chad Detloff, Principal

Chad Detloff is an education and leadership consultant, career educator, and nonprofit executive who partners with K–12 schools and mission-driven organizations to strengthen global competence, leadership capacity, and off-campus programs through culturally responsive, community-centered approaches. His work emphasizes clarity, care, and accountability, grounded in inclusive and intercultural practice.

With more than twenty years of experience as a classroom educator, senior school administrator, and executive leader, Chad brings a practical, systems-level understanding of how schools and nonprofits operate—and how they can grow responsibly in an increasingly interconnected world. His expertise spans strategic and financial planning, faculty and leadership development, global and intercultural education, experiential learning, organizational rebranding, and risk management for domestic and international programs.

Chad currently serves as the Principal of Detloff Intercultural Leadership and Strategy and Vice President of Strategy at Options for Learning, where he supports equitable, high-quality early education and childcare services for nearly 10,000 children and families across the San Gabriel Valley. Previously, he was Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives at the Institute for Global Learning, a network of approximately 400 schools worldwide, where he led an organizational rebranding initiative and oversaw strategic projects focused on climate and sustainability education, student civic action, intercultural competence, and the governance of off-campus learning. Over the course of his career, Chad has worked directly with nearly 200 schools, has presented in 17 countries, and has published numerous publications on global competence and intercultural dialogue.

Earlier, Chad served as Director of Global Programs at Chadwick School, developing signature global programs across campuses in the United States and South Korea and ensuring a coherent K–12 approach to global competencies and experiential learning. He also currently serves as Executive Director of a nonprofit arts organization, the L.A. Choral Lab.

At the core of Chad’s practice is a commitment to intercultural, dialogic, and inclusive pedagogy. Organizations value his ability to balance educational vision with governance, duty of care, and practical implementation. Chad holds a B.A. in Comparative Literature from Dartmouth College and brings professional fluency in English, Spanish, and Italian.

Chad has had a transformative impact on both our work together as well as the broader network of climate educators and global learning educators. This work reflects his deep understanding of community needs and his strategic ability to bring people together around shared goals for climate action and civic responsibility. Chad has played a key role in shaping and launching initiatives that directly address climate education and civic participation. He has also cultivated relationships with a diverse range of professionals — including consultants from a variety of educational and business spheres — who now actively contribute to the Institute’s programming. These partnerships have expanded our ability to reach new audiences, to support the myriad types of work being done in the global and climate education spaces, and to deepen the impact of the Institute across local, state, and national levels. Chad’s dedication to equity and innovation in environmental education is also very impressive. Whether supporting youth-led initiatives, developing inclusive programming, or amplifying underrepresented voices in climate discourse, Chad exemplifies the kind of leader your fellowship seeks to support. His creativity, collaborative mindset, and tireless commitment to sustainability and community resilience make them an outstanding fit for your fellowship.”
